Tailoring Biotechnologies
(ISSN 1574-1990)
Center for Tailoring Biotechnologies and Genomics, Wageningen, The Netherlands

Guidelines for Authors:
Within the scope of journal, we invite the submission of original articles (5,000-8,000 words), research notes (2,000-4,000 words), review essays (2,000-4,000 words) and reviews (800-1,000 words).

Submitted manuscripts should contain some definable and original contribution to the domain of social scientific knowledge of biotechnologies and biosciences studies. Review articles should place the reviewed book within the literature; describe basic thesis, core concerns, theoretical framework, and focus (thematic or historical); evaluate the book’s conceptual, methodological, or substantive contribution; identify its readership or who might profit from reading the book; and evaluate how effectively the book is written and the material in the book organized.

Manuscripts of articles, research notes, review articles, and reviews should be sent in Word format to both:
  • Guido Ruivenkamp, Editor-in-Chief: Guido.Ruivenkamp@tailoringbiotechnologies.com
  • Joost Jongerden, Managing Editor: Joost.Jongerden@tailoringbiotechnologies.com

Tailoring Biotechnologies publishes manuscripts in English only. American spelling should be used throughout. The first page of the manuscript should contain:
  • the title
  • the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s) and their contact address(es)
  • an abstract of no more than 100 words

All diagrams, charts, and graphs should be referred to as ‘Figure’ and numbered consecutively. Tables should be kept to a minimum and contain essential data. In-text and footnote references should be denoted by parentheses, with commas separating the author, year and (if applicable) page number. A semicolon should separate multiple references. Example:
  • (Appadurai, 1991, pp.20-2; Feenberg, 1999, p.66)

Full details of the references should be listed at the end of the text in a separate section entitled REFERENCES. The author(s) should ensure that there is one-to-one correspondence between the names (years) in the text and those on the list. Sample formats:
  • BOOK: Feenberg, Andrew (1999), Questioning Technology, London: Routledge.
  • JOURNAL: Appadurai, Arjun (1981), ‘Gastro-politics in Hindu south Asia’, American Ethnologist, Vol. 8, No. 3, August, pp. 494-511.
  • COLLECTION: Ruivenkamp, Guido (1997), ‘Biotechnology as a sociotechnical ensemble - closing remarks and reflections’, in Wirz, J. and E. Lammerts van Bueren (eds.), The Future of DNA, pp. 274-283, Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Puiblishers.
